The Phoenix Project: Inspiring Action Through Art and Biochar
At WongPhai, we have always believed in the extraordinary potential of biochar—not just as a practical tool for sustainability but as a powerful symbol of hope and renewal. This belief led us to join the prestigious International Biochar Initiative (IBI) program in New York, USA. Through this transformative experience, we deepened our understanding of biochar’s wide-reaching impact on the planet and its people. Inspired by this journey, we collaborated with world-renowned artist Ben Von Wong to bring to life something truly remarkable: The Phoenix Project.

A Journey of Discovery and Collaboration
Our time with the IBI program was more than just an educational experience—it was a pivotal moment that fueled our commitment to raising awareness about biochar’s potential to combat climate change, enrich soil, and empower communities. During this transformative journey, we connected with Ben Von Wong, a world-renowned artist and environmental advocate, whose creativity and vision deeply resonated with us.
Ben introduced the concept of The Phoenix Project, a powerful artistic representation of renewal and transformation. Inspired by the symbolism of the phoenix, Ben envisioned a creative endeavor that would bring biochar’s story to life in a way that inspires and educates. His idea became the cornerstone of our collaboration, combining art and action to amplify biochar’s message and encourage global engagement.
Raising Awareness Through Art
The Phoenix Project is more than just a piece of art—it’s a call to action. By using a universal language that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, the project encourages people to explore the role of biochar in combating climate change.
Key messages of the Phoenix Project include:
- Transforming Waste: Showcasing how biochar turns agricultural waste into a valuable resource that sequesters carbon and improves soil health.
- Climate Action: Highlighting biochar’s role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices.
- Community Impact: Demonstrating how biochar initiatives empower local communities by creating jobs and enhancing resilience.
Through exhibits, workshops, and digital platforms, the Phoenix Project reaches audiences across the globe, inviting everyone to join the conversation on sustainability.

A Partnership Rooted in Shared Values
Our collaboration with Ben Von Wong reflects WongPhai’s mission to combine innovation, community, and creativity. By working together, we’ve created a project that not only celebrates biochar’s benefits but also inspires real change. The Phoenix Project aligns perfectly with our vision of a sustainable future driven by awareness, action, and empowerment.
